Langley & Banack Appellate Shareholder Dylan Drummond is representing a Texas high school student and his mother in their legal battle against the student’s school district for punishing him under the district’s dress code for refusing to cut his protective hairstyle commonly or historically associated with race. Discriminating in this fashion against students for wearing such hairstyles is expressly prohibited under Texas’s CROWN (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) Act, which was passed with wide bipartisan support during the 88th Legislative Session and signed into law by the Governor last year.
